Cool, Brandy. Environmental concerns are important. Let us know what you learn. The nearest organization for protection of local flora (other than native oaks) which I know about is in Fresno.

I took some squash from the garden down to Emergency Aid today. They have more volunteers than they need. A remarkable organization, with a big network of people behind it.

You're right about Volunteerism in America being one of the less controversial national political topics right now. de Toqueville: "I met with several kinds of associations in America of which I confess I had no previous notion; and I have often admired the extreme skill with which the inhabitants of the United States succeed in proposing a common object for the exertions of a great many men and in inducing them voluntarily to pursue it."

But it seems like it's impossible to get away from controversy nowadays. Politicizing volunteerism is, surprisingly, a very hot topic in the Valley right now. You may be braver than you think joining an environmental group, given the vicious, devastatingly personal actions of some of these groups against individuals speaking out in favor of water for the West Valley.

The organization you chose doesn't seem that way, though . Maybe you can be a voice of moderation. I think you actually like people even more than plants.
