Maryanne read this book last week, thought of me, and sent me my very own copy. Coming on the heels of my inchoate thoughts on silence, it felt like a sign. A revelation. Whatever it was, it has been a profound experience to read it, and the book is covered with my scribbled thoughts and "ah-ha" moments (to appropriate an Oprah-ism...) Too much to share. Read it. Seriously, go read it. You can borrow my copy if you want (and if you promise not to judge my random notes...)I'll share just the one thought:
"How quiet do we have to be to hear the plant sprouting, the Carolina wren in the woods, and the small birdsong deep inside ourselves? This is the voice theologians and philosophers and poets have called the voice of God."
Thank you Maryanne.

You know what would be awesome? To read the same book at the same time as someone else, and both write notes in the margins, and then trade copies. We should try that sometime.
I'm so so so glad you liked it. Seriously, the entire time I was reading it you kept coming to my mind. I'm glad there was a reason. :) (Not that I care if there is a reason to think of you, it just would have been silly if I was so sure you needed to read the book and then you hated it. Or took it as a sign that I thought you needed to shut up.) ;)
I wish I could practice silence like she does- I'm having to find much smaller and shorter times to do it. But I do think there are great lessons to be learned.
I love you!
I love you too...that would be super cool (the book exchange)!
